Our Research

We have begun to identify and develop a principles-based systems-oriented body of knowledge positioned to support 21st century membership-based organizations.

Using principles to establish a baseline, realistic models and practices are being designed and tested with organizations like yours. We welcome associations that are interested in becoming partners in our applied research efforts.

Our research initiatives are conducted within one of three tracks:

Emergence & Development

The core issue is to understand when and how these organizations emerge; to analyze their growth and development; document organizational benchmarks; discover and assess the obstacles and consequences encountered    as a result.

Structure & Function

The core issue is to explore the general infrastructure and operations of membership-based organizations; focusing on developing principles, processes and practices that generates more effective governance and management.

Membership & Community

The core issue is to examine the factors associated with building an active and engaged membership community; identify current and reveal new ways to ensure the association remains an organized population capable of sustaining itself over time.

Our research findings from earlier efforts have been incorporated into presentations, guides, articles and practical tools to help organizations increase their effectiveness. Some of the materials are available in our Body of Knowledge Section.

Let us know if your association may be interested in participating as a research partner.  Contact Trish Hudson at 650.344.4094 or email at info@earthlink.net.
