Board Members

Matt Baggetta

Matthew Baggetta is an assistant professor in Indiana University’s

School of Publicand Environmental Affairs.He holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and an MA and PhD in Sociology from Harvard University.

His research and teaching focus on civil society, civic engagement, and membership organizations. His work has appeared in scholarly journals including the American Journal of Sociology, Social Forces, and Perspectives on Politics.

He was awarded the Certificate of Teaching Excellence from Harvards' Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning in the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010

Outside the academy, he served for five years on the board of directors of the Boston Choral Ensemble, including three years as board president. He currently resides in
Bloomington, IN.

Kevin Whorton

Kevin has enjoyed over 25 years in the nonprofit & association fields. He is the founder of WM&R, a consulting firm that conducts industry and membership research; and develops marketing campaigns for a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.

In his role as a consultant heading WM&R he has produced more than 220 research studies, marketing campaigns, and other engagements for associations and charities.

Previously, he held director and VP positions in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, and National Association of Home Builders. He served as head of development for the international charity Catholic Relief Services, raising $350 million over three years and was an account director for Marketing General Inc.

He co-founded NACDS' successful e-commerce venture ChainDrugStore.net, and has been a serial volunteer, serving in the Direct Marketing Association as conference and membership chair and vice-chair of its Nonprofit Federation; and serving as ASAE chair or vice chair for their Member Action Team, Marketing Section Council, and Associations Make a Better World awards, in addition to serving 15 terms on their International, Membership, Research, and Consultants Section Councils.

He completed his PhD coursework in Economics/Industrial Organization between the University of Maryland where he held a Presidential Fellowship and George Mason University and pursued executive training in the retail management program at Northwestern University/Kellog School.
