Walter C. Schatz


Walter Schatz has more than 40 years’ experience as an association executive, public assembly facility manager and hotel sales director. His most recent position was executive director with the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY), the largest regional association in the promotional products industry. During his 15 years at SAAGNY, the membership tripled and revenue grew by 400% from its two trade shows as well as three additional shows. SAAGNY also expanded its research efforts, education programming, and publications (print and online).


While at SAAGNY, Mr. Schatz worked to establish the SAAGNY Foundation and conducted fundraising efforts to support research as well as provide relief to the victims of September 11th and Hurricane Katrina.


He has also served as executive director for three other associations that were state, national and international in scope. Mr. Schatz has extensive experience in developing education and certification programs; he also has proven expertise in trade show management. 


Prior to working in associations, Mr. Schatz focused his efforts in the area of city planning, parks and recreation programming, and community organizing.


He earned his BA from the State University of New York at Cortland and his MS from Columbia University's Teachers College.
